SWAT

The Mission of the Oxford Police Department SWAT Team is protect and serve the citizens of this community by minimizing danger and inconvenience to the public while maximizing the safety of the public and police and shall be committed to community and officer safety. The SWAT team is a support resource within the department and shall be responsive to the entire needs of the Police Department and shall also be available to any local, state, or federal law enforcement agency upon request and approval of the Chief or his designated representative. The services of the Oxford Police Department SWAT team are specifically directed towards situations when violence or potential violence is considered a high risk. The Oxford Police Department recognizes that the presence of a specialized unit of highly trained tactical police officers has been shown to successfully reduce the risk of injury and loss of life to citizens, police officers, and suspects; and recognizing that a well managed team response to critical incidents usually results in successful resolution of critical incidents. It is the intent of the Oxford SWAT team to provide a highly trained and skilled tactical team as a resource for the Oxford Police Department to utilize in the handling of critical situations.
